Aaron of Prepped and Polished breaks down the different levels as well as level structure on the SSAT.

The SSAT is a standardized test for students who are wishing to enter into independent schools across the US. The SSAT is broken into three different levels depending on the grade level of the student and also the grade that they are wishing to enter.

  • If you have a student who is in 3rd or 4th grade and looking to apply to 4th or 5th grade, then they are going to take the elementary level of the SSAT.
  • If you have a student who is in 5th, 6th, or 7th grade and looking to apply to 6th, 7th, or 8th grade, then they are going to take the middle level of the SSAT.
  • If you have a student who is in 8th, 9th, 10th, or 11th grade and looking to apply to 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, then they are going to take the upper level of the SSAT.
