The Science Behind the Struggle
What is Executive Function — and why does it matter?
Executive function is the set of mental skills that act as your brain’s “command center.” They control how we plan, start, manage, and complete tasks. Students with EF challenges aren’t unmotivated — their brains simply haven’t yet developed strong systems for managing the demands of school.
10 Signs Your Child Need EF Coaching (And What to Do About It)
The good news: these are learnable skills. With the right coaching, students build habits that last a lifetime — far beyond the classroom.
- 1
Time Management: Planning, estimating, avoiding time blindness
- 2
Task Initiation: Getting started without dread or avoidance
- 3
Organization: Materials, workspace, digital files
- 4
Working Memory: Holding and using information while learning
- 5
Cognitive Flexibility: Adapting to changes and shifting tasks
- 6
Emotional Regulation: Managing frustration, anxiety, and motivation
What to Expect
What a Prepped and Polished EF Coaching session looks like
We don’t just tell students what to do — we build the habits with them, session by session.
Step 1: Initial Assessment
We start with a full picture of your child — their learning style, current challenges, school demands, and goals. This shapes everything that follows. Parents receive a summary of our findings and the plan going forward.
Step 2: Tutor Matching
We pair your child with an EF coach whose personality, experience, and approach are specifically compatible with them — including experience with ADHD, anxiety, and other learning differences.
Step 3: One-on-One Sessions
Each session is structured around your child’s current workload and goals. Coaches work on real assignments while teaching EF strategies in context — so skills stick because they’re immediately useful. Every session is guided by our proprietary Executive Function Playbook© — a structured curriculum developed exclusively by Prepped and Polished coaches.
Step 4: After Every Session: Parent Email Report
You’ll receive a detailed summary of what was covered, what progress was made, and what to watch for at home. You’re always in the loop — no guessing what happened in the session.
Step 5: Ongoing Progress & Adjustment
We track progress over time and adjust the approach as your child grows. Our goal is always independence — we’re building skills they won’t need us for eventually.

Testimonials
“Excellent executive function services. My EF coach helps me stay on track and stay organized as I navigate my first year in college. I’m super glad I gave executive function coaching a try. I also appreciate the admin team for helping make scheduling simple & quick.”
“We are most grateful that our son found Prepped and Polished executive function coaching to help him adjust to his first year of middle school. Our EF coach took the time to bond with our son and got to know his interests.. This was a key first step in creating a trusting and effective teacher-student relationship. She helps him connect to why improving executive functioning skills matter and has been very helpful in encouraging him to do a thorough job on his work, all while incorporating relaxed and fun conversations.”
“Working with my Prepped and Polished EF coach has been transformative for both my productivity and personal growth. From the start, she introduced small, actionable steps—like using a calendar and to-do lists—that had an immediate positive impact. As we progressed through the curriculum, my coach went beyond teaching me EF skills; she empowered me to use them independently and effectively. Her kindness, encouragement, and support have made this journey both productive and enjoyable. I truly value her guidance and look forward to continuing to grow with her expertise.”
