Spring isn’t just about daffodils and warmer weather; for many students spring is the stressful start of the Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Use these five easy tips to beat back the test anxiety and do your best on exam days!

1. Talk to your teacher

Your AP teacher knows your work better than anyone, so set-up a quick meeting to gauge your strengths and weaknesses before you begin preparing for the exam. Your teacher may also recommend prep books and other materials to use as you study.

2. Learn your test’s format

Each AP exam is structured differently, so it’s important to know what your test looks like. You can use AP test prep books or the AP website to take practice tests, look at different questions, and get familiar with what you’ll be seeing on test day.

3. Take timed practice tests

Once you’ve looked at the format of your chosen AP exam, start practicing so you can get your pacing just right. The more practice tests you take, the more comfortable you’ll feel on the day, making you less likely to rush.

4. Study with a group

AP exams are designed to test you on a wide range of material, so studying with a group can help ensure you’re not missing anything. By comparing notes and putting multiple heads together, you can cover more material, faster.

5. Prepare early

The AP exams are a marathon, not a race. By starting your preparation early and creating a study schedule, you can give yourself enough time to work through the material at the pace that works best for you. You’ll also have more time to focus on any weak spots you may have.

And of course, always make sure to get a good night’s sleep before each exam. Then you will truly be on your way to success!
