Alexis Avila Founder/President of Prepped & Polished discusses three ISEE insider tips.

Tip 1. Don’t spend too much time on the synonyms.
Tip 2. Be careful with pacing during the Math Achievement section.
Tip 3. Relax and come prepared.

If you’re applying for private school, you’re probably going to have to take the ISEE test, the independent school entrance examination. For most levels, it’s roughly a two-hour and 45-minute test and five sections. So here are three ISEE insider tips:

Tip number one

Don’t spend too much time on the synonyms. After the 20 synonyms, you’re gonna get 20 more sentence completion, and those take longer. So you want to get through the synonyms so you can get to the seventh completions.

Tip number two

Be careful with the pacing on the second math section, the math achievement section. The math achievement section is longer than the first math section, the quantitative reasoning section. So the math achievement section is longer, and for middle and upper level ISEE test takers, there are actually more questions. So a lot of my students come back, and they say they ran out of time on the math achievement sections, so be careful with the pacing.

Tip number three

Relax on the test and come in prepared. A lot of ISEE test takers are younger students, and they often get flustered while taking a long test. So, in order to relax, make sure that you come in well-prepared and have a good game plan for the pacing that will help you gain confidence during the test.

I wish you good luck on the ISEE exam, and I’ll talk to you soon.
